Biography of Alistair Petrie
Alistair Petrie is a British actor who has starred in The Bank Job (2008), Cloud Atlas (2012), Rush (2013) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). He has also starred in Utpioa, The Night Manager, Sherlock and Undercover. Recently, he was cast as Mr. Groff in the Netflix series Sex Education.
Born in Catterick, North Riding of Yorkshire, he was raised in the Middle East, mainland Europe and East Africa. Petrie trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He then spent the early part of his career in theater across the country before joining the RSC.
In 2005, he joined the National Theater, where he stayed for about 28 months acting in His Dark Materials. Later in 2008 he played the lead role in Man in Mine and shared the experience at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds. He played Heaton in The Duchess (2008).
On television he played Geoff in Utopia and later played the role of Major Shelton in the second episode of Season 3 of the BBC TV series Sherlock which aired on 5 January 2014. He went on to play Dr. Stephen in The Terror in 2018 and was cast as Mr. Groff in the 2019 Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education.
